The former and infamous Bigg Market gentleman’s toilet in central newcastle is an iconic piece of architecture in Newcastle and the memories of geordies which has been around since the 1800s.
Shut by the council in 2012 the building became derelict and slowly deteriorating until the Bigg Market regeneration scheme was proposed by NE1.
As part of this the former public convenience space was to be renovated and turned into a commercial space and a bid was put out to find a business to occupy the space.
The client for the WC was eager to celebrate the history of the space by using a victorian inspired theme and by addressing the former use of the space. These two were addressed with a thorough and in-depth interior design scheme with results which speak for themselves.
